I was wrongfully arrested for a dui in * after a single vehicle accident. Ems on the scene advised the arresting officer that i had a dangerously low (*) blood glucose level and needed emergency medical treatment. Although I passed a breathalyzer and a field sobriety test at the scene *and later passed another breathalyzer at the jail) i was denied medical treatment and taken to jail. After 2 years and a small inheritance from my late grandmother I was able to hire an attorney to help me as the public defender i was assigned refused to accept anything hut a guilty plea and in fact on several occasions in court I refused to enter a guilty plea and advised her I wanted a trial, she inevitably would approach the bench on her own and ask for a continuance as she told the judge I needed time to save up fine money, which was and is a blatant disregard for my wishes. Upon hiring a private attorney all charges except "leaving the scene" which I did not do, were dismissed "due to facts". I feel this entire situation was not only grossly mishandled at every level but there does not seem to be any recourse for a person if the cops or court system are wrong. I dont know what avenue i should take
Valerie, you may consider filing a civil rights lawsuit for wrongful arrest, denial of medical treatment, and ineffective assistance of counsel. You might also file a complaint against the public defender and the arresting officers.
