Thank you so much,Nice to meet you as well. I recently became my mother's POA after my older sister whom was mom's POA got caught using my mom's money without her knowledge or permission to buy herself, her child and husband extravagant & highly expensive items. As well as purchased a brand new vehicle for themselves. When mom confronted them with the new charges (thousands they've spent on themselves in a yr ..yr half time frame) on her account. Mom was then verbally abused, manhandled, mentally, emotionally abused daily and threatened with physical violence. They would take her vehicle to prevent her from leaving her home, leaving her constantly isolated, scared and alone as a recently widowed mother (who's been in a domestic violence marriage for over 40yrs) When i found out what was happening I acted as quickly as i could, had them both evicted from her property and mom also revoked her as POA and thats when i became her POA. Mom now is desperately seeking legal advice and services but sadly now has very very low income and desperately needing a lawyer to attempt to hopefully regain any of her money that they stole from her.
I'm not sure honestly what I need to do first
Hello Brandy, sorry to hear about your situation. Firstly, you need to report this abuse to your local authorities. Second, you should gather all the evidence of the misuse of funds. Lastly, consult a lawyer. Since you mentioned your mother has low income, she might qualify for free or low-cost legal aid. Could you let us know your location so we can provide more specific advice?
