I live in California. I work for IHHS as a live in caregiver for an elderly woman with dementia thats worsening and she's unable to make decisions on her own. Her boyfriend recently moved in and ive had to report him to adult protective services because hes taking advantage of her financially and wants to take her money but the woman doesn't understand that and her dementia is worsening and ger boyfriend is going to try to apply for a conservatorship and wants her to go to assisted living facility and sell her property. She has no family and im the only one who cares for her and im concerned. And since im living there i dont have any other place to move to. What should i do?
Hi ****! It sounds like a challenging situation. Here are some steps you can consider:
- Document Everything: Keep a detailed record of any suspicious behavior or actions by the boyfriend.
- Legal Guardianship: You might consider applying for conservatorship yourself, as you are concerned about her well-being.
- Consult a Lawyer: It may be helpful to consult with an elder law attorney for legal advice and to protect the elderly woman's interests.
Would you like to be connected with local lawyers who can assist you with your case?
Yes if its pro bono or free as i cant afford anything expensive
