Uk Visa Language Requirements

Summary

To employ workers from Pakistan in the UK, they must meet the English language requirement for a Skilled Worker visa. Consider alternative visa options like Temporary Worker visas if they cannot meet this requirement. Switching from a Charity Worker visa to a Skilled Worker visa is possible, but English proficiency is still needed. For an ESOL visa, focus on enrolling in an approved course and financial support. Accredited ESOL course providers can be found on the UK governments ESFA website.

i have a query - i have a sponsorship licence from the UK which allows me to provide CoS to international workers. i am looking to employ workers from Pakistan in a few months, but my issue is they cannot speak English - they don't have the help or support to go through he process much less pass an English course in Pakistan. now they speak the same mother tongue as myself, so i am able to communicate with them, but if i were to offer a job via a CoS, and then also support them when they come to the UK and help with an English course here - a requirement for the job offer, would i be successful in the application - would the workers be able to apply for a visa
Hi Hanna! For your workers to apply for a Skilled Worker visa, they must meet the English language requirement. This generally means they need to:
- Pass an approved English language test with at least CEFR level B1 in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
- Have a degree that was taught in English.
Offering support for an English course once they arrive in the UK might not suffice for the visa application. They need to meet the requirement before applying. Have you considered any local resources that might assist them in preparing for the English test in Pakistan?
we have and there are no options available - for me to send them money in Pakistan is not the way i want to go - but to offer support here is something i was thinking of doing, as poor families in Pakistan have always struggled with this aspect - no education means no visa or opportunity to leave there country and provide themselves with better lives - this was something i was hoping to do down so that i may be able to help the less fortunate rather than helping those that can get help from anywhere
Hanna, it's great that you want to support workers from Pakistan. For a Skilled Worker visa, meeting the English language requirement before applying is necessary. You might consider offering online English language courses or partnering with local institutions in Pakistan to help them prepare. Have you explored any online resources?
no - again this is not the route i want to go down - having to run a business here is struggling enough i don't want to commit to something i am not *% sure i can offer - especially in another country with a * hour gap
Hanna, I understand the challenge. Unfortunately, the English language requirement must be met before applying for the visa. One option could be to look into online language programs that the workers can take at their own pace. Have you thought about this alternative?
this would take to much time as i need the workers here as soon as
Hanna, it's great you're committed to helping these workers. Unfortunately, the English language requirement is mandatory for the visa. If time is an issue, you might want to consider hiring workers who already meet the requirement or look for expedited language courses that can be completed quickly.

what other visa options are available for these candidates to come to the uk
Hi Hanna! For workers who cannot meet the English language requirement for the Skilled Worker visa, you might consider the following options:
- Temporary Worker - Seasonal Worker Visa: For temporary agricultural work.
- Temporary Worker - Charity Worker Visa: For unpaid voluntary work.
- Temporary Worker - Creative and Sporting Visa: For those in the creative or sporting sectors.
These visas have different requirements and might not need the same level of English proficiency. Would you like more details on any specific visa option?
can the visa be shifted to skilled worker from a charity worker visa once in the uk
Yes, it is possible to switch from a Charity Worker visa to a Skilled Worker visa while in the UK. Your workers will need to meet the requirements for the Skilled Worker visa, including the English language proficiency, before applying to switch visas.
