Derivative works are protected under copyright law, and small changes may not be enough to avoid infringement. There is no specific pixel count that guarantees originality. Okay so I have a legal question There's this mc server That has custom reskins and models for there pokemon so they payed someone to make them And they sell them to players with like a vote crate or crate keys And I basically used a mod to rip the resource pack from the server Cause it was server sided resourcepack that no one is suppose to have anyway I have there models and reskins My question is If I were to resell them Would I be in any legal consequences I haven't seen. A single license or anything in the files could I get in trouble for selling the skins to people
Hi Jake! Selling those reskins and models could potentially lead to legal issues, including:
- Copyright infringement, even if there's no explicit license found.
- Violation of the server's terms of service.
- Potential legal action from the creators or the server owners.
It's best to avoid reselling them. Do you have any other questions about this?
What if i change the skins to be differant by * pixels
Even if you change the skins by * pixels, it may not be enough to avoid legal issues. Here are some potential concerns:
- Copyright Infringement: Small changes might not be considered substantial enough to avoid infringement.
- Derivative Works: Modified versions can still infringe on the original creator's rights.
It's best to create entirely original content. Do you need advice on how to protect your own work?
How many pixel would i need to be considerered original
Case Rating: *
Changing a few pixels may still be considered a derivative work and not entirely original. Generally, the new work must be significantly different from the original to avoid copyright issues. There’s no specific pixel count that guarantees originality. Creating entirely new and unique designs is the safest approach.
Do you have any other questions about this?
