I’m requesting help finding an attorney. I have a concern. The social security office located in Virginia mailed mine & my child’s personal info to another person. This included name address social security numbers. Another persons info was in with paperwork that was mailed to us. I have the actual envelope & paperwork along with communication with Social Security. This was mailed from an Appeals office after they denied benefits to my son who fought childhood cancer & suffered from side effects for years. We were told that his benefits should have never stopped & would start back. However, there has been no benefits or back payment. What should we do?

Thank you! I have tons of evidence & have kept all copies of stuff that we had to send to them so he could receive SSI benefits. He clearly qualified. It absolutely shocked me how they would deny to help a child with mental physical disabilities with numerous doctors (chemo radiation * surgeries living at the hospital for 9months multiple side effects. We have had to jump thru hurdles to try to please them just to be able for him to get the help he deserves. So when they sent our info to someone else & vice versus I was even more shocked. They admitted it & an apology after I made them aware. That did not fix anything. If you are ever contacted with another parent or person claiming this, just know it’s true. Our personal info is not safe & The govt gives out the protected info.
I'm sorry to hear about your struggle. In addition to a privacy lawyer, consider reaching out to a lawyer specializing in disability law. They can assist with the SSI benefits issue.
