Hello Dawn Turner, welcome to FreeLawChat. How can I assist you with your legal query today?
So I'm a renter and I received a vacate notice via email last month May 9th. The problem I'm having is I have been here * yrs now and I don't feel like theyre doing things legally. I asked them if they can't put me in another rental and they said nom the reason I am being asked to leave is because they're saying I'm requesting a lot of work to b done here. I put in a maintenance request when I smelt and noticed sewer leaking all in my basement, the next morning I was asleep to leave.
Hello Dawn, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Could you please specify your location? Landlord-tenant laws vary by state and your options might depend on it.

I understand your situation, Dawn. Here are a few key points about Indiana landlord-tenant law:
- Landlords must maintain the property in a habitable condition.
- If they fail, tenants can repair and deduct the cost from rent.
- A landlord cannot retaliate with eviction for requesting repairs.
You might want to consult a local legal aid organization for more specific advice.
