. I have a * VW Passat that I brought into an independent shop on April 8th. They fixed the turbo clamp, and AC, and I mentioned there was a clunking noise coming from the front left of the vehicle. They subsequently told me the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. After they replaced the rack and pinion, the dashboard lit up like a christmas tree, and the new rack and pinion could not be programmed properly. Turns out, the steering angle sensor broke and steering column during the rack install, and over a month later they told me today the car is finally done.
However, there are lights on the dash that they are not able to fix after a month of diagnosing. They have checked the entire vehicle over and they do not know why the lights are on the dash.
My question is, I am now $*,* into repairs in the past month, and I am not sure how to proceed. Is the independent shop liable for fixing the lights? They claim there is nothing they can do. Should I take them to small claims court? Do I drive my vehicle with the lights on? Any advice appreciated.
