Attempting to determine whether it’s worth time and energy to file a dispute against a moving company that damaged our floor when we moved from Indiana to Oregon. We filed a claim with them but they stated the contract we signed does not hold them liable for damage to our property. We believe they were negligent and that the damage occurred because they did not hire adequately skilled help for the move. We also filed a claim for damage to a lot of our personal property (we purchased full replacement value coverage) and the values they assigned will not replace or repair the broken items.
It seems like you have a complex situation. Here are a few points to consider:
- Review your moving contract for clauses about liability and negligence.
- Check the terms of your replacement value coverage.
- Document all damages and communications with the moving company.
- Consider mediation or arbitration if available.
