i got admitted into a graduate program and accepted and then after the programs deadline for making final decision they rescinded the offer
I'm sorry to hear about your situation, Bob. May I ask if the university provided any reasons for rescinding the offer? Did they mention anything about violating the terms of the agreement or any other issues?
They said that upon recieving new informaiton they changed their mind
I see, that must be disappointing, Bob. Could you please specify the nature of this new information they received that led them to change their decision? This will help me provide a more accurate response.
they wouldn't specify
I'm sorry for your situation. It's crucial to know:
- If there was a contract
- The terms of the contract
- If there's a clause allowing rescission
In Oregon, breach of contract may allow for legal remedies. You may consider seeking legal counsel for a thorough evaluation.

Based on the letter you received, it seems like a formal offer was made. However, the offer was contingent on several terms, including:
- Maintaining satisfactory academic progress.
- Demonstrating work authorization in the US.
- OSU Graduate School's final review.
If these terms were breached, the university could rescind the offer. If not, you might have a case for breach of contract. Consider consulting with a local attorney for advice.
