hi i applied for a fafsa student loan in august and the finaid office did a lot of things they should not have, and i tried to send you their e mails but too long! First they requested info they already had and held me up for months, then they said I was in a que and to keep waiting - I by chance went to another department, student accounts, and the guy got me my loan right away, but only *,* was sent, and that should be monthly, so they dragged their feet until my class is almost over, I could not buy gas, books, pens, pay my internet bill, anything! I am also legally disabled. Thank you, I have the e mails dating back to august and the letters from FinAid seem almost like harassment. they asked for my HS info high school, when I graduated from this college and they have all my transcripts, etc. Just dumb stuff but really screwing me up badly. Is there legal action or recourse to take ? I was denied a fair go and already have issues. thank you!
Hi Colleen, it sounds like you've had quite a frustrating experience. Here are some potential steps you could take:
- Contact the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Federal Student Aid Ombudsman Group for assistance in resolving disputes.
- Consider filing a formal complaint with the college's administration regarding the mishandling of your financial aid.
- Consult a disability rights advocate to see if there are additional protections or recourse available to you as a legally disabled individual.
Do you need help with contact information for any of these options?
I just did contact the ombudsman's office. Will see if I can find a disability rights advocate, do you know any? I never find advocates.
Hi Colleen, here are a few resources for finding a disability rights advocate in Washington:
- Disability Rights Washington: They provide advocacy services and can be reached at (*) *-* or www.disabilityrightswa.org.
- Washington State Human Rights Commission: They can assist with complaints related to disability discrimination. Visit their website at www.hum.wa.gov.
Is there anything else you need help with?
Those sadly are bunk, I have gone to those places before - the human rights one is a total joke, just these women listening to oldies and eating greasy food in an office and DRW is just a tip line, I will try again but those are scam sites
