yes, but my worry is that it may be infringing on my rights outside of school, since my phone is not owned by the school and if it isn’t on the campus of the school, how do they have the right to force me to bring it
It sounds frustrating. While private schools have more leeway in setting their rules, they generally cannot enforce policies that infringe on your rights outside of school. Have you considered discussing this with a parent or guardian to see if they can help address it with the school administration?
not yet, another problem I have is when I looked at the codes that allow these cellphone policies, the codes stated that they are able to enforce on things that have to do with school safety and productivity. However, since we aren’t allowed to use our phones, safety isn’t related and since we can’t have them out, it has nothing to do with productivity. So how are they allowed to enact a rule on my cellphone when it is in my private possession at home.
It sounds like you're dealing with a challenging situation. Here are some points to consider:
- Private schools have broad discretion to set rules, but they generally cannot enforce rules on your private property outside of school.
- Reviewing the school's policy with a parent or guardian and discussing the issue with the administration might be helpful.
- If you believe your rights are being infringed, you could consider consulting with an education lawyer for a more detailed review.
Would you like help finding a local lawyer to discuss this further?
