Hello, I work as a school cleaner with another person, they sent off their DBS about */2 months ago but still nothing has come back. (Which is obviously not their fault) Said person has recently got the supervisor job which I did not think would be acceptable as they have no DBS but is still being allowed to work for nearly a month. Legally they cannot enter the building without me being there, But I also do not think Its fair that I have to supervise the supervisor and have the responsibility of training said person & having to stay around them for the * hours of my job which is making it a lot longer to get all the work done. Working with said person is becoming extremely hard due to their unprofessionalism, they can be quite combative. As requested by the manager we should exchange phone numbers, I wasn't really comfortable with this but I agreed I now receive texts Everytime for work asking 'what time will you be in, don't leave the reception, wait for me' - working with this individual is making the job a lot harder. They have said some questionable things like they have had runs in with the police over small things, I assume that will not be in their checks as they haven't been arrested. But the way they are coming across makes me feel a bit wary of some of the things they have said / behaved like while working with them. Obviously I'm stuck, as I cannot leave as I will affect their job. Is there any advice someone could give me please, are you able to work in a primary school without a DBS?
Hi Hannah,
It's generally required for anyone working in a primary school to have a DBS check completed before starting their role. Here's what you can do:
- Report Concerns: Raise your concerns with your manager or HR about the lack of DBS and the difficulties you're facing.
- DBS Check: Request an update on the status of their DBS check.
- Work Conditions: Highlight how the current situation impacts your work efficiency and well-being.
Is the school aware of the specific issues you're facing with this colleague?
