I have a child dependency case that I have hired private representation for. The case has not come out in my favor not once... My attorney lacks the care and concern I feel necessary to handle such case. There is little to no communication unless I email and beg for some kind of response. I have been given wrong information and have been given no information on topics that should have been explained. I asked yesterday what a *.* hearing meant and what I need to do to prepare and was told by my attorney to Google it and let him know if I have any questions. That *.* hearing is on the 17th, I was not informed at the last hearing that I needed to attend, I was told we were cancelling the trial and that my attorney would not be attending so also did not go. My reunification services were terminated at that hearing and I had no idea until after the fact. What can I do to help my case and possibly hold off of permanency planning?
I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you're facing. Here are some steps you can consider:
- Request a Continuance: You might ask the court for a continuance to delay the permanency planning hearing. It’s crucial to act quickly.
- Seek Alternative Counsel: Consider consulting another attorney or legal aid to get a second opinion and potentially switch representation.
- File Complaints: If your attorney is not fulfilling their duties, consider filing a complaint with the State Bar of California.

Can you help me draft a letter to the judge/court requesting to let go of my private counsel and possibly appoint me court appointed counsel

Certainly, I can help you with the drafting. Here's a basic outline for your letter:

Dear [Judge's Name],
I am writing to formally request the termination of my current private counsel and to seek the appointment of a court-appointed attorney for my child dependency case. Due to ongoing issues with my current representation, including inadequate communication and misinformation, I believe a change in representation is necessary for the fair and just handling of my case.
Specifically, there have been instances where crucial information regarding hearings and case proceedings was not communicated to me, leading to unintended consequences such as the termination of my reunification services. Additionally, I was advised to research legal proceedings independently, which I feel is inappropriate given the complexity of the case.
I am unable to afford another private attorney and kindly request the court's assistance in appointing a public defender or court-appointed counsel to represent me moving forward.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your favorable consideration.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Case No.: [Insert Case Number]
EX PARTE REQUEST TO RELIEVE RETAINED COUNSEL AND APPOINT COURT-APPOINTED COUNSEL
TO THE HONORABLE JUDGE OF THE JUVENILE COURT:
I, **** GreatValue, respectfully request that this Court relieve my private attorney, Vincent Davis, and appoint counsel to represent me in the above-entitled matter. This request is based on a fundamental breakdown in the attorney-client relationship, as detailed below:
*. Lack of Communication
My attorney has repeatedly failed to communicate critical information regarding my case, including upcoming hearing dates, court outcomes, and the legal consequences of specific decisions. Despite multiple attempts to have my concerns addressed, I have not received adequate responses.

Complete Breakdown in Representation
There is a consistent lack of meaningful advocacy and attention to this matter. I no longer believe my current attorney is adequately addressing the needs of my children or my rights as a parent.
PRAYER FOR RELIEF
For the reasons stated above, I respectfully request that the Court appoint competent counsel to ensure my participation in this case is meaningful and that my constitutional parental rights are protected.
