Domestic Violence Legal Aid

My fiance, well ex fiancee, and I live together and have an * yr old daughter. He is extremely abusive toward me. The police have been here * times in 6 months and Everytime they side with him and he never gets arrested, even though they take pictures of my injuries. I don't call them, he does because he always takes my phone. There's a waiting list for the battered women's shelter in our area, which I am on it. In the meantime children's services has been here twice already due to the police notifying them if they situation. They said they will remove her from the home if the violence continues. If I call them myself can they make her father leave the home since he's the aggressor? I'm also confused as to why the police won't arrest him but yet they cal children's services and report the violence.

I filed for a protection order and haven't heard anything except it will be set for a hearing.

Yes. They are here twice over the weekend. They have pictures and a copy of my emergency room release papers. They said I scratched his arm so they can't determine who the aggressor was. They were the ones who called the ambulance for me. And yes in may have scratched his arm, in self defense.

Yes. The local domestic violence hotline. They did an intake assessment and tried to get us in somewhere immediately but they said they just are completely full so we are on the list. A victims advocate was supposed to call me but hasn't yet and I don't have information about local legal aid

There was several. The one that I talked to that I can remember was Officer Vivian Feke.

She believed me. She didn't accuse me of starting the fight. She was very kind and genuinely concerned. Several of the other officers said if they have to come back I will be arrested for disorderly conduct.

Sgt. Patterson was one and I'm not sure if the other officers names. They don't introduce themselves and I don't ask.

Actually he has been on several of the calls throughout the past few months. When my ex maced me he basically said that if he has to come back I'll be arrested for totally conduct because my ex said I was throwing tools at him. I did absolutely nothing except say it was time for my daughter to come up for her bath. He also was here when my ex put all my stuff out on the porch and trying to say I had to leave and all he said was if any of your stuff is ruined we could possibly file criminal damage and reports on that in the meantime maybe you should go somewhere else on the things cool off. This weekend he simply said if he gets another call I was going to be arrested for disorderly conduct because my neighbor called not him. He had the neighbir call they went to school together. He said that I was outside yelling and threatening him when I went outside and simply said Piper's lunch is ready, that's my daughter's name.

Yes I have actually. I'm not sure who to talk to about that, but definitely have had a lot of thought about that. I actually told him this weekend that not only am I getting abused by my ex I feel like he's abusing me too and abusing his authority. He told me that was my opinion and he was tired of seeing my face. I have never called the police. My ex has always called them.

Ok. I didn't know who to call but thank you and I will definitely follow-up on that. When you're hurt and broken and scared and battered and bruised it's bad enough, but when you see a police officer and instead of feeling safe you start shaking with more fear and you don't know what to do that is one of the worst feelings in the world.

I have only contacted them at Dinah summit county better women's hotline. They are actually very helpful and very calming. They just don't have room at their shelter right now but hopefully they will by wednesday. That's the only place I've contacted

They said hopefully by Wed but it could change anytime. I call every day to see if they have room. They had a room over the weekend and I had until 10pm to get there. That's the day he fractured my ribs and I couldn't make it.

Ok. One office who's name I don't know said that there has to be someone I can go stay with. I said sorry I have five contacts in my phone and four of them are his family members and the fifth one is my 21 year old son who I cannot get involved with this situation. It would destroy him and he's in college. He said and maybe I can go get a hotel room. And I said why can't you just make him leave the home he said he can't make anyone leave it home but he was trying to make me? With an 8 year old? I'm so confused about the whole situation.

I didn't get his name. They always come with at least * officers but many times more come. My ex is an big man, *'*" about * lbs. I am *'*" 140lbs. They keep * with him and talk and the rest surround me and just start accusing me, not questioning me, flat out accusing me. I don't know what kind of pull my ex has for the police department, I've been with him 12 years and he's not friends with any of them. I just don't understand what it is.

I did take Sgt Pattersons suggestion and go to a hotel one night.

I had to leave my daughter behind because she was already in bed and I didn't want to wake her, plus I walked and it's almost * miles. I stayed for one night because it because it was $* per night. I came home the next day and my ex accused me of being a prostitute at the hotel which caused another fight. I spent the next * nights just walking around town until morning when he would leave for work and I would go home. His mom was there with my daughter until I got there

He said he was going to douse me with gas and light a match. The police were not called. I went to the bedroom and only came out to use the bathroom for the next 2 days. My daughter stayed with his parents during those 2 days. I didn't say a word to him or even look at him. He spent most of that time in the garage just working on his stuff out there.

Yes. I wasn't sure how to go about it but how I have the info for legal aid in my area. I can't afford an attorney on my own right now. I called one and he said that most charge around $* an hour and these type off issues take lot of time to sort out

They are the ones that told me since he didn't sign the birth certificate he has no legal rights and I could legslly take my daughter and leave at anytime. And said to give them a call back when I check my finances and decide on want to retain them . They also said it was crucial for me not to be arrested for any type of violence against my ex or charged with anything because the that would give them leverage to remove my daughter from me

Medina county department of children's services. I do know that there is no open or active case. They said it was more of a follow up from another departments recommendation. And then said that basically Wadsworth Police made a recommendation that they come do a check because of the calls for violence and there is a child in the home.
