Under South Carolina law, landlords must maintain rental properties in a fit and habitable condition. If they fail to do so, tenants may have options to seek legal remedies. Could you please specify how long the AC has been broken and whether you've notified your landlord in writing about this issue?
I informed the landlord on */* that the ac unit was out my toilet is also backing up and clogging. I was informed that the owner of the property will not fix the ac unit. The person in teh office told e that I can move to one of their other properties or move out. I have been trying to reach them and as of yet no one has solved my issues
Under South Carolina law:
- Landlords are obligated to provide habitable living conditions.
- If they fail, tenants can:
- Repair and deduct the costs from the rent.
- Withhold rent until the problem is fixed.
- Terminate the lease.
Ensure to document everything and consult with a local attorney before taking any steps.
