Landlord Entry And Removal
Summary
In Illinois, landlords must provide notice before entering a tenants apartment and respect tenant privacy. Removing a thermostat without permission could breach tenant rights, as it affects essential services. The thermostat is likely owned by the landlord if it came with the apartment, but they must maintain essential services. The situation may involve both civil and criminal aspects, including potential charges for criminal trespass and property damage. Emotional distress claims can vary widely, and consulting a lawyer can help determine compensation. If you have already involved the police and have a lawyer, no further contact with local lawyers will be made.Full Conversation

Are you interested in knowing your rights as a tenant regarding essential services or anything else related to this matter?
Well I guess I just want to know can any other charges come about after he took the thermostat?
