My landlord recently signed a lease extension where he had used an old form & forgot to change the rent amount so it was significantly lower. We both signed this form. Now he has realized the error & sent me an adjusted lease extension with the rent changed to the original price of the lease. Do I have to sign this? If I refuse to sign & only pay the lower amount what rights do I have if he tries to evict me?
Generally, if both parties signed the lease agreement, it's legally binding even if there was an error. However, specific laws may vary. In Missouri:
- If you've both signed, you might not have to sign the new lease.
- If your landlord tries to evict you, he may have to prove that you violated the lease.
