My name is **** **** and myself and my partner were formerly renting my home at * Creek Road in Poughkeepsie/Hyde Park to Bradley Hildenbrand and Jenna Marie Hildenbrand. Due to inflation and rising costs, the affordability to continue to lease our home out for the * agreed-upon monthly rent of $* is out of reach. This fact, coupled with Jenna not paying the rent for April, as well as other concerns, resulted in us sending an e-mail notice on */*/* to both Brad [since his name is on the Lease] and Jenna that we would be ending the Lease May 31st, *. When the rent when unpaid in April, despite written communication and assurances by Jenna at several points during the month that the rent would be paid, we were advised by colleagues and friends, who understand our situation, that we should start the eviction process alongside a small claim for the rent. We have done our best to assist Jenna in several ways, but unfortunately, we do not have the financial means or time to continue like this, and Jenna has communicated time and again that we would only receive May’s rent and the remaining *% of the April rent if a charity would grant her the funds, and more concerning, has made no indication of moving out by May 31st. We have always been ready and willing to make necessary repairs and maintenance, replacing the roof in * and reacting immediately to any type of concern brought to our attention; without complaint or issue in the *+ years of renting to the Hildenbrand’s. However, as of recent, following a routine Orkin pest management spraying of the exterior of the home, termites appeared inside the house. The moment we were notified we both arrived at our home within hours and called Orkin for remediation. At no point during this entire situation did Jenna indicate to us that she felt unsafe; as again, we would have reacted appropriately to such. Weeks later, in lieu of notifying us immediately, we were sent an e-mail by Jenna on */*/* that termites were spotted, and that by not using the water softener, she had allowed the water to become so overly heavy in iron content so as to report that the water was staining her daughters as well as the lesser important bathroom fixtures and pipes, and that she could no longer utilize areas of the house due to termites; sending us and her child/family advocate terrifying and alarming photos. Of course we reacted immediately, calling Orkin and running the water softener for her, but we do feel as though she is now using the house as a tool to make threats against us and create hazardous situations to make us appear as some type of neglectful landlords of a house, I call home. I now live in fear of what else she might do.
