Landlord Retaliation And Deposits

Summary

In California, landlords are required to return security deposits within 21 days after a tenant moves out. Retaliation by a landlord, including harassment or eviction threats for lawful tenant actions, is illegal. If you believe your landlord has violated these rules, consider consulting with a local attorney to explore your options for reimbursement and protection of your rights.

I want to make sure I am *% I can get my landlord to reimburse me for expenses and the return of our deposit even tho we canceled our last rent check because after giving him 30 day notice, he retaliated by: force of harassing texts to be out by one week, him living next door made our last days miserable by the texts of when we were moving out when we gave him notice, two days later he gave us less than a week with the date he said to be out.

Can you give me a bit more information about the issue?
We lived next to our landlord. My roommate talked to him asking him if he could give him two days for the rest he was short on. My boyfriend and I gave him our part. My roommate did the right thing by letting him know because he had this late fee of charging us $*/day/person so communication was made. The next day, we find * 3day to pay of quit notices plastered all over the property. This lead to us giving him our 30 day notice because he had partial payment and knew the situation. This lead to a whirlwind of violations
