Car Sale Legal Steps

Summary

If you sold your car and received a parking ticket due to the vehicle still being registered in your name, contact the DMV to report the sale and provide a copy of the bill of sale. File a notice of transfer if required by your state. To reclaim the vehicle, negotiate with the buyer or consider legal action, especially if the buyer cannot be insured due to lack of a drivers license.

I sold my car a few months ago. I wrote a bill of sale as is. And signed my title over to this person. I just got a parking ticket for having espired plates in the mail yesterday. And called the county that the parking ticket was issued in and they say the car is still registered in my name. My question is, what are my options for this situation if I were to reclaim the vehicle? And what are the legal requirements I have to meet to acquire the vehicle again especially if I found out the person who I sold it to doesn't have a license to drive and can not be insured because of this?
Hi ****! Here are the steps you can take:
- Contact the DMV: Report the sale and provide a copy of the bill of sale.
- Send a Notice of Transfer: If your state requires it, file a notice of transfer with the DMV.
- Reclaiming the Vehicle: If you wish to reclaim the vehicle, you may need to negotiate with the buyer or seek legal action.
