Hi there! How can I assist you with your legal issue today?
I traded a VW Passat for a Harley motorcycle. I signed the title and handed over the car in good faith that the title to the motorcycle would then be given to me when it came in. The car has yet to be transferred out of my name and it has been scrapped (not by me). I still have no title to the motorcycle. Was told can’t get title to the motorcycle. And now taxes are due on the car again. What should I do?
It sounds like a tricky situation. Here's what you might consider doing:
- Contact the person you traded with and request the motorcycle title.
- If they refuse or cannot provide it, consider filing a complaint with the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV).
- You may need to consult a local attorney for further legal action, especially regarding the car's taxes and title issues.
Is there anything specific you would like to know more about or need help with?
I’m in Kentucky but I think the car was scrapped in Indiana. Can I get proof that it was scrapped or how can I get the process going for the title to reflect it was scrapped
To get proof that the car was scrapped in Indiana and update the title, you can:
- Contact the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) to see if they have records of the vehicle being scrapped.
- Reach out to local scrap yards or salvage businesses in Indiana to see if they have any records.
- Consider consulting with an attorney if you face difficulties in obtaining the necessary documentation.
