Lease Agreement Fee Discrepancy

Summary

To protect yourself in a lease agreement in Israel, ensure the agreed broker fee is clearly stated in the contract. While messages can be evidence, written agreements are more legally binding. Request a written confirmation of the fee and document all communications. Consider consulting a local attorney in Israel for further guidance.

i’m a US citizen and i’m signing a two month short term lease in Israel where i am not a citizen and will be a visitor. my broker is having my sign a * shekel brokers agreement fee but has assured me several times over message that the fee will only be *. is it safe to sign the lease and will our messages hold valid if down the line she tries to make me pay the amount in the contract even though she has assured me several times via messages that the fee is different?
Hi Ariella! To ensure you're protected, it's best to have the agreed fee of * shekels explicitly stated in the written lease agreement or an addendum to it. While messages can be used as evidence, a written contract holds more weight in legal matters. Have you discussed updating the written agreement with your broker?
i did ask her to update it. she says since she usually does not do short term leases, she is unable to edit the shekel price on it
Hi Ariella! In this case, it's important to protect yourself. Here are a few suggestions:
- Request a written confirmation from the broker stating the agreed fee of * shekels.
- Document your communications and agreements in writing, including emails or messages.
- Consider consulting a local attorney in Israel for further guidance to ensure your interests are protected.
