Summary
In Maryland, landlords must adhere to legal eviction procedures, especially if a property is condemned. They are required to offer a suitable replacement housing option within a reasonable distance and comparable rent. Tenants can challenge wrongful evictions in court. If you believe your eviction was unjust, consider consulting with a local attorney to explore your legal options.Full Conversation
We were living in an old farm house owned by a church for the last 8 years but this April we got an eviction letter that appeared to be in the form of a printed out email. They said the house had structural damage to the roof and foundation and they were condemning the house and kicking us out. The inspector actually didn't set one foot inside the house so I'm not sure how accurate his assessment was.
I am now living in a homeless shelter where I have been since August. People here including the staff treat me very poorly and have done a seemingly never ending list of things that have tormented me.
The reason I think there might be a wrongful eviction case is that I have looked up the codes of Carroll County MD where we live and it says a landlord can't displace a tenant due to a house being condemned without finding a suitable replacement appartment with comparable rent within a reasonable distance. Clearly the landlord didn't do that.
I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Since you mentioned Carroll County, MD, it seems like you might be in Maryland. However, you previously mentioned that you are in Ohio. Could you please confirm your current location? This will help me provide you with accurate legal information.
