Hi! So I got a speeding ticket for * in a *, and the cop that pulled me over said since it's my first ticket ever to go to court, plead guilty, and the judge will give me driving school and dismiss my ticket. Well, I have court today, and just recently I found out that when the cop turned on his lights (to preface, I was driving northbound on a road, he was traveling southbound, he was not stationary) I hadn't even crossed the * MPH speed change sign. I was still in a *. When he lit up his lights, I was still about *-* ft away from the * sign. I was too panicked in the moment to think about that, but I don't have any evidence aside from geographical landmarks where I know the exact spot he lit up his lights. I feel like I can only plead guilty, but is there anything I can say in traffic court after pleading guilty? Will the judge let me speak on the issue at all? Should I say anything about how it was right at the 45mph sign when he lit his lights up? Please help!
Hello ****, it's important to remember that you have the right to share your side of the story in court. However, speed limit signs generally apply to the distance they can be seen from. Also, it might be beneficial to speak with a traffic attorney. Could you please share your location so I can provide more specific guidance?
