Reclaiming Dog From Shelter
Summary
You may have a right to reclaim your dog without paying adoption fees. In North Carolina, animal shelters usually hold pets for 72 hours before they become eligible for adoption. If fees are waived, adoption requirement might be negotiable. Consult with a local attorney or legal aid service to understand your rights and possibly assist with negotiating with the shelter. Animal Control picks up my dog brings her to shelter. When informed I'm on the way to a funeral in convington Georgia. I live in kinston NC. The shelter calls and inform me i have to speak with animal control to get her back. I never got animal control on the phone but left messages everytime i called. I go in, in person once i returned home. They tell me i have to pay $*. We're on a fix income. My husband is a vet and I'm in the application process for disability. It's the middle of the month so i try to raise the money with gofundme. Nothing, during this time I have left several messages to the Director of health department and come today my calls were returned saying they will wave the fees. I call the shelter and they say wont release my dog to me. I have to adopt her for $* that i do not have.
