I have a general question. I came across a rehome dog ad on tuesday, and got the dog. There was no legal paperwork involved, informal handoff. I tried surrendering the dog and moving her to multiple shelters/rescues. But i couldnt find anything and just claimed her as a stray and turned her into the animal shelter.
Hi ****! It sounds like you've gone through quite a process with the dog. In Texas, when you take possession of a dog without paperwork, ownership can be informal. Here are a few things to consider:
- Texas law generally considers pets as personal property.
- Abandoning a pet intentionally can have legal consequences.
- Once surrendered as a stray, the shelter follows its protocols.
Do you have concerns about any legal consequences from this situation?
Yes when i signed the paperwork they said i could be charged with a class a if I falsified ownership.
