an officer showed up to my home yesterday he said he was there because I am on camera stealing a bike from a local store. I did not steal the bike. I went and picked it up for my uncle who purchased it online and lives out of state. He asked me if I could go and pick the bike up. He sent me a receipt which I had in my hand and the store are saying that I did not purchase it.
Hello ****. That sounds like a difficult situation. Could you tell me where this happened? The legal procedures can vary based on location.
Clallam county, Washington state
Hello ****, in your case, it would be wise to:
- Keep the receipt as proof of purchase.
- Prepare a statement explaining the situation.
- If the officer returns, you may wish to consult a lawyer.
Remember, you have the right to remain silent if questioned without legal representation.
he told me over text that if I don’t show proof of the receipt that I will have a arrest warrant put out on me and I no longer have the receipt because this was like two months ago and it is since been thrown away or I have no idea where it is to be honest
Hello ****, I understand your concern. Here are some options:
- Ask your uncle for a copy of the receipt
- Inquire with the store for a duplicate receipt
- Seek legal advice; they can guide you in dealing with arrest threats
Remember, you cannot be arrested without a warrant or probable cause.
I asked my uncle for a receipt. He said that he sent me the receipt that he had. He cannot find the confirmation email that he got. I don’t know how to help him with that since he lucid and different state in the store is saying that there was no purchase on their records, so I don’t know what to really do now I’m kind of stuck in the middle. I look like I stole a bike and I didn’t.
Hello ****, I understand this is stressful. Here's what you can do:
- Contact the online platform where the bike was purchased for a receipt or record.
- Consult with a lawyer to understand your rights and possible defenses.
- Do not speak to the police further without legal representation.
What do I do if there’s a warrant place for my wrist do I need to turn myself in?
Hello ****, if a warrant is issued for your arrest, you can voluntarily surrender but it's advisable to:
- Do so with a lawyer present.
- Remain silent until your lawyer arrives.
- Not resist, as it could lead to additional charges.
Remember, an arrest doesn't equate to a conviction.
