My girlfriend was stopped at our local Casey's gas station and was questioned by a cop about some methamphetamines that were dropped on the floor supposedly she stated she didn't know anything about it the cop continued to ask her questions and started asking questions about me I think it's because we were both together at the gas station at the time of the event they say they have it on film on camera if they have it on camera they would clearly see that it is not me who dropped the drugs how am I arrested and given a possession charge when it was never in my possession nor was it ever on me there's claiming it fell out of my pocket what are my rights
Hello Julie, you have the right to:
*. Remain silent.
*. Refuse searches.
*. Be free from unreasonable searches and seizures.
*. Have a lawyer present during questioning.
*. A fair trial.
Remember, these rights can vary slightly based on your location. Can you please provide your current location?
I live in Illinois I was not given my Miranda rights when they arrested me
In Illinois:
*. Police must read Miranda rights before custodial interrogation.
*. Not being read these rights could make any statement or confession made inadmissible.

I made sure I didn't make a statement cuz I didn't want to incriminate myself but I was still arrested and given a charge I go to court I just didn't know when they see the footage they see that it's not me am I still going to be held liable for this
In Illinois, if the video evidence clearly shows that you're not the one who dropped the drugs, it could significantly help your case. However, court decisions can be complex and involve numerous factors. It's best to consult with an attorney.
One more question my friend that was with me I believe was the one that dropped them since I've been charged if they come forward and make a statement that it was theirs will they be charged with that crime
Yes, if your friend comes forward and admits to possessing the methamphetamines, they might be charged with that crime. This depends on the jurisdiction and exact circumstances. It's advisable for your friend to seek legal advice before making any statements.
