It’s for my fiancé. He got arrest for driving a golf cart under the influence but charged with wreckless driving involving alcohol. Besides the whole arrest being done wrong, he hired a lawyer and now says he can’t come home to Kansas he has to stay in Florida for two months, register as a Florida residence, and get a BPO license and then can come home. He was there for work and now has no income to stay there. How can he come home without staying there 2 months and becoming a resident there?
Hello ****, it's a complex situation.
The requirement to stay in Florida may be related to his pending court case or probation terms. However, it's unusual that he needs to become a resident. It's best to consult with a different Florida lawyer for a second opinion.
His lawyer has never done a DUI case. Originally said he can come home. Had had * hearings and now the lawyer says that’s what has to happen.
Hello ****, it seems like a confusing situation. I would highly recommend getting a consultation with a lawyer in Florida who specializes in DUI cases. They might be able to provide more insight into the situation. Additionally, you can contact the Florida Bar Association for assistance.
We did and that lawyer said we had to pay him 5k to even look at the case completely and it’s a small community and he said, oh I’m friends with your current lawyer, why are you unhappy with him.
I understand your frustration, ****. Here are some options:
*. Contact the Florida Bar Association for a lawyer referral.
*. Seek free or low-cost legal aid services in Florida.
*. Consult with a public defender if eligible.
Please remember, professional ethics require attorneys to put client's interests first.
