Combining Us Uk Work Credits

Summary

The U.S. And U.K. Have a Totalization Agreement allowing you to combine work credits from both countries for social security benefits. Form SSA-2490-BK is used to start the process. The agreement also helps avoid double taxation, generally requiring you to pay social security taxes in the country where you are currently working. For specific tax advice, consult a tax professional or relevant tax authorities.

Hello ****,
The U.S. has a Totalization Agreement with the U.K., which allows for combining U.S. and U.K. work credits. You might be eligible for partial U.S. social security benefits. SSA-*-BK is the correct form to initiate the process. For U.K. retirement, you should contact the U.K.'s Department for Work and Pensions.
OK, many thanks. I will complete that form today. Do I pay tax both in UK and here?
Hello ****,
The US-UK Totalization Agreement also helps to avoid double taxation. Generally, you will pay Social Security taxes to the country where you are currently working. However, individual tax situations can vary. For specific advice, please consult a tax professional or the IRS and HM Revenue & Customs.
OKay, thank you very much.
You're welcome, ****. If you have any more legal questions in the future, don't hesitate to reach out. Wishing you all the best with your retirement process.
