I am in California
Got it. In California, you can address this issue by:
- Contacting the Social Security Administration (SSA) directly to report your situation.
- Requesting to appoint a new representative payee or asking them to send your checks directly to you.
Have you reached out to the SSA to explain your situation?
I can't do that because I don't have an ID but I just found out that I can use the address that I have right now to get an ID so I know that that is a first step but let's say I had an ID when I call the social security office what do I say to get somebody to actually see me
When you contact the Social Security Administration (SSA) with your ID, you can say:
"I need to report a change in my representative payee. The current payee is no longer in contact with me, and I need to appoint a new one or have my checks sent directly to me. Can I schedule an appointment to resolve this?"
